Furniture Shopping Tips
To save time and help while shopping for new furniture.
- Download and use our "Room Planner" or utilize our new
Online Room Planner application to
sketch your room and take it with you shopping. It is also helpful
if you measure your room and note the dimensions of existing furniture
pieces, built-ins, doorways & windows.
- Matching other pieces? Take along a drawer, table leaf, seat cushion or pillow to any item you are trying
to coordinate with. Color is a difficult thing to remember and different lighting fixtures can
affect how that color appears.
- For any store you plan to shop, call ahead or visit their website and find out all you can about them;
their services, exchange policies, selection, brands offered, store hours, financing available, etc.
If the person you speak to is helpful, get their name and be sure to ask for them when you visit the store.
You'll be more apt to receive great service once in the store.
- Take along any magazines or pictures of items
or styles you've seen that you like. Keep an ongoing file of furniture items, accessories, color schemes
and other ideas that you desire or appreciate.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help. Our professional sales associates are trained to "help you," not
just "sell you". They can answer your questions honestly and offer helpful solutions to your
decorating questions.
- Pay close attention to the size of an item. Many items today are much bigger in scale than just a few
years ago, so pay close attention to the size of each item. Too much furniture in a room can be just as bad
as not enough. Bring along a tape measure to make quick measurements.
- When shopping for upholstered furniture look for pieces that are comfortable to you in the way it's used
in your home. If you usually stretch out on the sofa at home then be sure to lie down on the sofas you're looking
at.
